Dance Movies
Post- Fred and Ginger Dance Movies
Students taking private lessons at our Roslindale studio have
free access to our growing movie library! Here is a short list
of dance-related movies you may want to rent on your own for some
extra infomation:
Swing
- Swing-(1995?) Lisa Stansfield; best contemporary
original movie soundtrack for swing, in my opinion.
- Swing
Kids (1993) - Good plot!
Ballroom:
Tango
- The Tango Lesson (1997), starring Sally
Potter and Pablo Verón, directed by Sally Potter
- Tango (1998), starring Cecilia Narova and Mía Maestro, directed by Carlos Saura
- Assassination Tango (2002), starring Robert
Duvall, Rubén
Blades and Kathy
Baker, directed by Robert Duvall
- Scent of a Woman (1992), Al Pacino
as blind Colonel dances a legendary ballroom tango.
- Addams Family Values (1993), Raul Julia
and Anjelica
Huston dance a tango so passionate that it literally burns
the floor and makes all the champagne bottles in the nightclub
pop their corks.
- Happy Together (1997), directed by
Wong
Kar-wai ; one tango scene.
- Rent
(2005) had Anthony
Rapp and Tracie
Thoms perform a semi-elaborate bisexual ballroom tango in
the song "Tango: Maureen" to describe their emotional
relations and issues over a girl they both dated.
- Frida (2002), about the life of the
amazing Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (or mostly her stormy relationship
with Diego Rivera, actually) is not a dance movie. But it deserves
note here for the passionate tango scene between Frida (Salma
Hayak) and the photographer Tina Modotti (Ashley Judd.)
